One neighborhood, two lakes! Silver Lake (named after Herman Silver,
LA's first water commissioner) is actually two reservoirs: Silver Lake
and Ivanhoe Reservoir, that small part up top. You like music? So does
Silver Lake. The Sunset Junction Street Fair each summer hosts local
musicians and indie-music stars such as Beck, Sleater-Kinney, the
Cramps and Dave Alvin. But Silver Lake does not live by water and music
alone. Modernist architects Richard Neutra, John Lautner and R.M.
Schindler designed homes in Silver Lake. Then there's the Jungle Brunch
in the hut at Cha Cha Cha on Virgil Ave., "Chicano chic" cuisine at
Malo
on Sunset, and rib-sticking hangover cures at Millie's diner on Sunset.
When you're done eating, head out for more music at Spaceland on Silver
Lake Avenue.
